Fourier Series, Crossover Distortion
Cuthbert Nyack
In certain kinds of amplifiers ( complementary symmetry etc ),
the voltage required to turn on the amplifiers can produce
crossover distortion if not correctly designed and adjusted.
The applet below shows crossover distortion and its frequency
spectrum. The signal with crossover distortion is shown in
red and its spectrum in
magenta. The extent of the distortion can be controlled by the parameter
"a".
The resultant waveform is constructed from its frequency spectrum and the
accuracy of the representation depends on the number of terms
summed.
The eg parameters (3, 0.03, 1.0) show the effect of 3rd
harmonic distortion.
When activated the following gif image show how the applet should appear.
