Amplitude Modulation, Synchronous Demodulator.
Cuthbert Nyack
The applet below shows how an amplitude modulated signal can
be demodulated by a Synchronous Detector. The modulated signal
(Yellow) is multiplied by a sinusoid at the carrier frequency.
The result is shown as the Red curve which has components at
0. wm, 2wc,
2wc - wm
and 2wc + wm.
The Green curve also shows the result of the multiplication but
it also shows what happens when the frequency components other
than the modulating frequency are removed from the product.
eg setting 2wc = 0.0 removes the
component at twice the carrier frequency.
