Audio and Video tape

In recording audio and video signals onto magnetic tape, problems arise with the large dynamic range required and the characteristics of the magnetization curve. The system used is illustrated below.
For audio an AC bias is added to the signal so as to make optimum use of the magnetization curve.
For video, to produce R, G, and B signals 3 signals have to be recorded. The luminance signal is recorded as a frequency modulated vsb signal which also acts as an Ac bias. The frequency is deviated by ±0.5MHz while the spectrum goes from ~1 to ~6MHz. The color information is recorded as AM signals with a ~562kHz carrier and ±500kHz deviation.
